Who Are Houthi: A ship coming from Turkey to India was hijacked by Iran-backed Houthi rebels. A total of 25 crew members were present in this ship. These include people from Ukraine, Bulgaria, Philippines and Mexico and many other countries. Israel has directly held Iran responsible for the hijacking of this ship.
The Houthis who hijacked the ship are related to Yemen. This is an Islamic country, in which both Shias and Sunnis live. About 60 percent of the population in Yemen is Sunni Muslims, while Shia population is about 35 percent. There has been a conflict between Shias and Sunnis in Yemen for a long time. In such a situation, to articulate the voice of Shias, in the 1990s, Shia Muslims formed a rebel organization called Houthi or Houthi.
fight against yemen government
Under the leadership of Hussein Badruddin al-Houthi, this organization fought against the then President Ali Abdullah Saleh and the government of Yemen. However, in 2004, Yemen’s army killed Hussein Badruddin Al Houthi. Within 10 years of Badruddin’s death, this organization became so strong that it captured Yemen’s capital Sanaa in 2014 and since then it has been under the control of Houthi rebels.
Iran helps Houthi
Now since Houthis are Shia Muslims, their inclination is more towards Iran. It is noteworthy that Iran is a powerful country in Central Asia, which helps Houthi. At the same time, Saudi Arabia is Sunni majority. In such a situation, he opposes Houthi. This is the reason for what is going on in Yemen where at one end there are Shia Houthi rebels and at the other end there are Sunni majority people.
Houthi rebels hijacked ship
It is believed that these Houthi rebels hijacked a cargo ship coming from Turkey to India in the Red Sea near Yemen. The name of this ship is Galaxy Leader, on which Houthi rebels landed using a helicopter and hijacked it and took it to the border of Yemen.
These Houthi rebels thought that the Galaxy Leader cargo ship was related to Israel, which has waged a war against Hamas. Let us tell you that Houthi is supporting Hamas in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. The Houthis have announced that they will continue to target Israeli ships passing through the Red Sea.
Cargo ship belongs to British company
Meanwhile, the Israeli Army has issued a statement making it clear that the Galaxy Leader cargo ship has nothing to do with Israel. According to a report in Daily Mail, the flag of Bahamas is installed on Galaxy Leader. The owner of the ship is a British company and an Israeli company Abraham Ungar also has a stake in it, which has leased the ship to a Japanese company.
Now that it has become clear that this ship has nothing to do with Israel, the Houthi rebels have still not freed it. Israel has also issued a statement regarding this and said that this hijacking took place at the behest of Iran, which is a terrorist act and a direct violation of international laws.
However, it is not yet clear what was in this ship coming from Turkey to India. Nor has there been any response from India on this yet.
