Review of NPS: The Central Government has constituted a committee headed by the Finance Secretary to review the National Pension Scheme. This committee has discussed about NPS with the parties of government employees. In this meeting, the National Council of these employees has presented its stand on the issue related to the pension of government employees. This information has come to the fore after the government’s statement in Rajyasabha.
During the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha, many MPs asked questions related to the review of the National Pension Scheme to the Finance Minister, including Digvijay Singh to Javed Ali Khan and Ramnath Thakur. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, while answering their questions, said that the committee has discussed with the staff side of the National Council (Joint Consultative Machinery). He told that the staff side has put its views before the committee regarding the issues related to pension of government employees.
The government has constituted a committee to review the NPS. Which will study whether there is a need to change the existing framework and structure of pension of government employees. Also, if the need for change is felt, the committee will give its suggestions for further improvement in pension benefits of government employees coming to NPS keeping in view the financial burden and budget of the government. The Minister of State for Finance said that the discussion of the committee regarding NPS is going on.
After the announcement of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to review the NPS, the Central Government constituted a committee under the chairmanship of the Finance Secretary. Apart from the secretary of the Department of Personal Training, the chairman of PFRDA is also a member of this committee.
